PRINTER CHECKS

Printer printing blank pages? Compare two tests.

First print the printer’s own report. Then compare it with the browser test to choose the next safe step.

Start with the printer, not a cleaning cycle

  1. Print the built-in quality, test or nozzle report. Use the printer’s control panel or exact model manual. This bypasses the browser and computer.
  2. Compare the same symptom. Note whether the built-in report is blank, missing the same color, streaked or blurry.
  3. Follow the matching branch below. Use inkjet steps for ink cartridges or tanks and laser steps for toner. Do not apply inkjet printhead cleaning to a laser printer.

Choose the next action

Blank output

Next: Print the built-in report. If it is blank too, check supply levels, cartridge or tank seating and any removable shipping seal exactly as the manual shows. If it is normal, retry one small document from another app and check the selected printer.

Missing colors

Inkjet: Compare a built-in nozzle check. If the same color has gaps, check ink and setup, then run one model-approved cleaning cycle and compare again. Repeated cleaning consumes ink.

Laser: Compare the built-in quality page, check toner status and cartridge seating, then use the model’s quality guide. A laser printer has no inkjet printhead.

Streaks or bands

Next: Compare the built-in report. For an inkjet, matching broken lines point to the nozzle-maintenance path. For a laser, check supported paper and the model’s toner or imaging guidance; do not touch the drum surface or hot internal parts.

Blurry or doubled text

Next: Use clean, dry, supported paper and match the media type in the print dialog. If the built-in report is also doubled or misaligned, follow the exact model’s alignment or calibration procedure.

Epson: blurry or smeared output checks

Nothing printed or no paper moved

Next: Confirm power, paper, the intended printer and online status. Open the operating system’s queue, resume or remove a stuck job, then send one small test again. Do this before print-quality maintenance.

Model instructions still decide the maintenance step

Control-panel names, safe access points, consumables and cleaning limits vary. Stop if the printer shows an error or the manual directs service.
